New in for this season, the Alpha Comps are a beautifully constructed pair of mountain trousers that offer excellent wind and water resistance whilst keeping your comfortable from the car right up to the peak (no matter if you're walking, scrambling or ice climbing your way up) and back down to the pub.
The Alpha Comps have been designed to take a beating - whether it's from rock, harsh weather or ice, these pants will protect you on your whole adventure. They balance beautifully balance breathability and durability by using Composite Mapping; this places fabrics in precise places for optimized performance. Gore Windstopper delivers zonal windproofing and high water resistance so is cleverly placed in the seat, crotch, thighs and lower leg cuff for extra protection from strong headwinds, snow and rain. Fortius 1.0 is a lightweight 4-way stretch softshell fabric and is used in the waist, back of the legs and gusset for comfort, mobility and for added breathability. This combination of materials also creates a snug but non-restricting, trim fit. The trousers also have a DWR treatment, further aiding to resist rain and snow and protect you for longer.
The features of these trousers are very cleverly thought out and quite special indeed. The waistbelt is adjustable eliminating the need for an extra belt and is also incredibly smooth and low profile meaning it sits comfortably under a harness or the hipbelt on a backpack. The singular thigh pocket on the right-hand side sits just under the leg loop, this means you won't have bits and pieces digging into your legs as you go for the crux move. It is also protected by a WaterTight zipper (which isn't 100% waterproof but is the only zip so far to pass the GORE extreme wet weather test) and features an internal anchor loop to secure things like keys and beacons. The lower leg of the trousers are tapered from the knee down to avoid getting snagged on crampons or when you're not wearing crampons, it means you can actually see where you're placing your feet when you're on a climb - simple but smart. And finally, the cuffs at bottom of the trousers can be unzipped to fit over ski boots or zipped up so they fit snug to your leg for crampon use. They also have grommets so you can install gaiter cord if you so wish - further sealing out cold updrafts.
All of these clever features and attention to detail come together to give you a very smart pair of trousers that are tough enough to take on your gnarliest, cold weather mountain adventures.
