What is the Trion 15?
It's a 15-litre backpack designed for light mountain days and fast-paced missions, whether fast hiking or mountaineering. The Trion is part of Mammut's mountaineering range, making this pack a versatile yet technical piece to add to your wardrobe, handy for done-in-a-day adventures.
What is it made of?
This backpack's main body comprises recycled N.210 SD X-Grid 90% polyamide, 10% polyester). Sounds technical, right? That's because it is! However, in a nutshell, it's incredibly robust and abrasion-resistant, meaning it can withstand the rigours of demanding mountain adventures and challenging climbs with ease.
The base of the pack is reinforced with 210D recycled nylon dragon for additional longevity, helping to reduce wear in places it would most likely appear and urging your backpack to last for years, if not decades.
The material is impregnated with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR), adding to the material's water resistance and encouraging light rain and snow to bead away.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay out in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
The pack is also bluesign® approved, meaning it's manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
Mammut works with FairWear to ensure safe, ethical working conditions in their factories, helping to protect workers' rights and being considerate and responsible with their processes.
What back system does it use?
Due to this pack's lightweight, vest-inspired design, the Trion 15 doesn't have the usual back system found on a regular pack. Instead, it features Mammut's Contact suspension system, and the entire harness wraps around the body, just like a running vest. Together, these features ensure maximum comfort, support and load stability.
An elastic chest strap on the harness also helps keep the pack from bouncing around without feeling restrictive.
What are its features?
The roll-top closure rolls away instead of exposing the main entry point to the elements, providing complete weather protection for your belongings. It has a zip fastening for extra security, ensuring that nothing can slip out if left open at any point.
Two soft flask holders keep soft flasks in easy reach for quick, on-the-go hydration. If you'd prefer a water bladder, then you're in luck! This pack is also hydration-compatible for hands-free sipping.
Large mesh pockets on the shoulder strap provide extra storage for a super packable shell, trail snacks or a beanie hat, alongside a rope attachment on the flap for mountaineering and climbing.
You can access the large main compartment through the roll-top closure or the side-access point if you don't want to stop and remove the vest.
An additional internal pocket with a key clip is the perfect space to store small valuables like cash, a mobile phone or keys. There's also a water-repellent external zipper pocket that would work well for extra layers or small maps.
Two ice axe attachments and trekking pole holders keep your tools out of the way safely when not in use.
When the pack isn't fully loaded, you can reduce the volume using the lateral compression straps to cinch away any dead space.
