What is the Petzl NAO LT?
The NAO LT is a lightweight running headlamp built around a front light and rear-mounted battery pack. Its low-profile headband and balanced construction are intended for regular training, giving runners a stable lighting system that can also be worn around the neck or mounted on a helmet.
Materials & Technology
HYBRID CONCEPT
Petzl's HYBRID CONCEPT lets the NAO LT run from the supplied CORE rechargeable battery or three AAA/LR03 batteries. The lamp automatically detects which power source is fitted and adjusts its lighting performance accordingly, giving runners an alternative power option when recharging is unavailable.
CORE Rechargeable Battery
The supplied CORE is a 1250mAh, 3.6V rechargeable battery that charges through USB-C. It sits at the rear of the head rather than alongside the lamp, spreading the system's weight between the front and back during running.
Recycled and Biosourced Materials
The NAO LT is made with 45% recycled or biosourced materials. Its ultra-thin headband is made entirely from recycled materials and can be removed from the lamp for washing or replacement when required.
Features & Functionality
600-Lumen Wide Beam
The front lamp produces a wide, uniform beam with three white lighting levels. With the CORE battery fitted, MAX POWER delivers 600 lumens with a 75m lighting distance, while STANDARD and MAX BURN TIME provide lower-output settings when maximum illumination is unnecessary.
Three White Lighting Levels
MAX BURN TIME, STANDARD and MAX POWER give distinct output levels rather than relying on a single brightness setting. With the CORE battery, these range from 7 lumens for close-range illumination through 100 lumens to the full 600-lumen output.
Rear-Mounted Battery
Positioning the battery at the back distributes the NAO LT's 90g weight around the head rather than concentrating everything above the forehead. Combined with the ergonomic headband, this creates a more balanced arrangement during repetitive running movement.
Ultra-Thin Headband
The breathable headband uses a slim construction intended for dynamic activity and can be adjusted around the head for stability. Reflective cord adds visibility in low light, while the removable design means the complete headband can be washed or replaced separately.
Rear Red Strobe Light
A red strobe is integrated into the rear battery unit, adding visibility from behind when running around other road or trail users. Petzl rates the red light as visible from 250m with a burn time of up to 250 hours.
Battery Charge Indicator
The charge indicator displays the remaining battery level whenever the lamp is switched on or off. This gives a quick indication of available power before heading out without requiring a separate battery check.
LOCK Function
The LOCK function prevents accidental activation while the NAO LT is being transported or stored. It is particularly relevant when the lamp is packed amongst other running equipment where pressure against its controls could otherwise switch it on.
SHELL LT Pouch
Petzl supplies the NAO LT with its lightweight SHELL LT storage pouch. As well as containing the headlamp during transport, the pouch can be used with the light to create a lantern-style setup when stationary.
Multiple Mounting Options
The NAO LT can be worn conventionally on the head, positioned around the neck or attached to a helmet with compatible mounting accessories. This gives the same lighting unit several mounting configurations depending on the activity and equipment being worn.
IPX4 Weather Resistance
An IPX4 rating means the headlamp is resistant to splashing water. It is suitable for exposure to rain during outdoor training, although the rating does not indicate that the lamp can be submerged.
