What is the Rock DFS?
The Rock DFS is a technical approach shoe from AKU that offers both maximum comfort during the approach and a high-performance fit when the climbing and scrambling begins. The key to that dual comfort and performance fit is the Dual Fit System (DFS).
How are they constructed?
Upper: The upper is constructed from a 1.6mm suede leather that is complemented by Air 8000 and Microfiber. The suede and microfiber offer excellent levels of durability whilst the Air 8000 keeps the breathability levels high. The lower portion of the shoe is protected by a rubber rand and reinforced heel cup, helping to ensure your feet are kept safe from unintentional rock strikes on uneven terrain. Front and rear loops make taking the Rock DFS on and off a breeze.
The real party piece of the Rock DFS is the Dual Fit System. The DFS allows you to adjust the comfort and precision of the fit when using the shoes in different environments. Traditional laces keep things comfortable when walking and on easy approaches and a fast lacing system helps to increase sensitivity and security when scrambling and climbing. This really makes the Rock DFS incredibly versatile approach shoes.
Midsole: The midsole uses a lightweight dual-density EVA & PU, the EVA foam provides the cushioning and the PU has been added to the heel for extra durability and support. AKU also includes their excellent ELICA Technology in the shoes to further enhance support. ELICA Technology ensures an anatomical fit to provide better stability and weight distribution across your shoe sole to reduce pressure points and encourage better hiking form.
Outsole: All of the midsole goodness is wrapped in some excellent rubber from Vibram. A Vibram Approcciosa sole with Megagrip to be specific. Megagrip is fantastically sticky and grippy (as the name hopefully suggests) and will help to keep you upright and moving across rocky and uneven terrain. It has been designed to make quick work of trails whilst also giving you the confidence to smear and edge when the going gets more vertical.
How do they fit?
The Rock DFS follow most other footwear from the AKU range, making them a good option for a fairly wide range of feet from slightly narrow through to slightly wide, although those of you at the extreme ends of the spectrum will likely struggle with the fit.
