What is the Kamen Hoodie?
It's a highly efficient 800+ FP goose down insulated jacket engineered for pinnacle thermal performance for various technical mountain pursuits in cold climates. Created with Montane’s advanced construction techniques and a whole host of technical, high-performance materials, the Kamen Hoodie excels in cold, mountainous environments.
What is it made from?
Insulation: The Kamen Hoodie is primarily filled with 180g of 90/10 ExpeDRY goose down with 800+ fill power, with PrimaLoft® Gold Active Vent synthetic insulation panels across the shoulders and front collar, for a balance of efficient low-bulk warmth, moisture management, and durability.
ExpeDRY™ by Allied Feather is an innovative, chemical-free, non-toxic alternative to hydrophobic-treated down. ExpeDRY™ uses chemical-free gases to permanently bond non-toxic gold particles to the individual down clusters, aiding the evaporation of water molecules, causing the down to dry faster and stay dry in high humidity and extreme conditions. This highly effective ability to move moisture helps the down retain maximum loft (fluffiness) and deal with various sources of moisture such as rain, snow and sweat, making it ideal for various environments and activities.
Primaloft® Gold Active is a synthetic insulation that provides ample warmth, even when wet. The ability to retain heat when wet is a huge advantage to synthetic insulation compared to down, alongside it being a vegan alternative. This insulation is also incredibly breathable and helps to regulate body temperature, balancing the body's microclimate when working hard. It's made from 80% recycled polyester, which, though recycled, maintains performance and feel. This insulation does not migrate to reduce the chance of cold spots forming over time and has a four-way stretch to enhance flexibility and freedom of movement - perfect for climbing, ski touring, or even using hiking poles.
Outer: Montane has used a lightweight 20 Denier Pertex Quantum Diamond Fuse recycled nylon ripstop for the jacket's outer for exceptional abrasion and water resistance. Pertex Quantum Diamond Fuse uses a uniquely engineered rhomboid shape yarn that's designed to sit together even more tightly than conventional yarn, creating an incredibly flat, interlocking fabric surface. This increases the material’s abrasion and snag resistance, whilst also giving the fabric exceptional water shedding properties. Pertex Quantum Diamond Fuse is a highly stable and robust material for its weight and features a unique technical sheen to the fabric. It's finished with a PFC/PFAS free DWR (durable water repellent) coating to further enhance the fabric's ability to shed light rain and snow without the use of harmful forever chemicals. However, please note that this does not make the jacket waterproof.
Lining: The lining of this jacket is constructed from lightweight 20D PEAQ recycled nylon with a PFC/PFAS-Free DWR (durable water repellent), which helps protect the inside from getting wet. PEAQ Down lining uses bluesign® approved recycled nylon plain weave, which is durable and abrasion-resistant yet lightweight. The lining feels soft next to the skin and is highly breathable, improving comfort and helping to regulate temperature during intense activity.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, a fully insulated and adjustable hood provides protection from the cold on exposed routes. It uses Montane's PIVOT 3 hood system, which provides a linked crown and aperture dual adjustment to quickly be cinched in with one hand over a climbing helmet or beanie hat without restricting your field of vision, reducing time spent faffing in adverse conditions.
The jacket is fastened with a two-way YKK Vislon Natulon recycled zip for flexible ventilation options and easy use with a climbing harness. The zip features an insulated placket to prevent cold winds from entering the jacket through the zip.
For storage, you'll find two hand warmer pockets with YKK Natulon recycled zippers that offer space for a mobile phone, trail snacks and energy gels to keep you fueled during your adventure. The pockets have been thoughtfully placed to still be accessible when wearing a backpack or climbing harness. Whilst two internal self-fabric stash pockets provide a convenient home for additional gloves or beanie.
The jacket uses various premium construction techniques to enhance its performance and longevity. Clever NAT (nip and tuck) baffles allow the down to loft down towards the body, maximising the thermal performance of the warm-air layer retained by the down. Montane's 'Reach fit' construction provides improved arm lift and forward reach, helping to stop the jacket from riding up when moving dynamically. Offset strategically placed seams throughout minimise vertical seams, optimise fabric usability, lower bulk, and reduce cold spots, with the bonus of creating a clean and timeless aesthetic. The jacket uses synthetically insulated panels across the shoulder and collar for better moisture management and durability in high-wear, high-moisture areas.
Once you're done with the jacket, it can be easily packed into the included cube stuff sack to take up minimal space in your pack. This stuff sack also doubles as a source of extra fabric should the jacket need to be repaired at some point in the future to extend its lifespan.
Finally, the Kamen Hood is created with Montane's 'mountain fit,' which is cut to provide enough room underneath for a technical layering system. The fit is engineered with articulated sleeves for an enhanced range of movement and optimum arm lift to minimise hem rise during various dynamic outdoor activities.
