What is the Belay 90 Sweater?
It’s an insulative, lightweight jacket designed for climbing missions, belay duty and mountaineering during autumn and winter.
The Belay 90 provides an exceptional amount of warmth, thanks to its recycled Swedish wool insulation, and is highly durable to withstand long days on the rockface. It’s versatile and stylish enough to be worn as a lightweight cover-up around town, whether running to the shop or heading for a beer with your pals – a sure investment for both your everyday and outdoor wardrobe.
What is it made of?
The outer of this jacket uses bluesign® approved, GRS certified recycled polyamide ripstop, making it extremely tough and robust enough to endure bumps and scrapes against jagged rock and rough surfaces. Although tough, it’s super lightweight and doesn’t feel too bulky or restrictive when worn, making it the perfect candidate for climbing and belaying where you require maximum freedom of movement.
It’s treated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages rain and snow to bead off the fabric. However, this won’t make it fully waterproof. So, if the weather is posing more of a challenge, it’ll be a good idea to pack a shell jacket to chuck over the top.
The Belay 90 is filled with Lavalan Swedish Wool which has been rescued from disposal, giving it a new lease of life and supporting a more circular economy. Though recycled, it performs superbly, and offers a great amount of warmth for its weight. Wool is a fantastic thermoregulator and natural insulator, as it can also stay warm when damp, unlike down. So, if you do get caught in a sudden shower, you won’t have to worry about feeling the chill!
What are its features?
The collar has a micro-fleece lining that adds a little bit of luxury to this already brilliant piece. It feels extremely soft and smooth against the skin, helping to prevent rubbing or chafing after long periods.
At the front, the main entry is fastened with a two-way zip, giving you better access around climbing harnesses, or extra ventilation if you need it.
In terms of storage, there’s a large alpine chest pocket for bulkier belongings like a mobile phone, wallet or GPS device, while two large hand pockets are great for keeping headphones, hill snacks, keys or energy gels. The hand pockets are also lined with soft micro-fleece material, making perfect hand warmers for cold days out when you’ve forgotten your gloves.
You can also pack away the jacket into the chest pocket, ideal for stuffing into a kit bag or rucksack in case you need a back up layer of warmth.
Cuffs and the bottom hem are elasticated to draw in the fabric, improve heat retention and keep the weather out, while providing better flexibility where you need it most.
