What is the Scimitar Windstopper Jacket?
The Scimitar is a durable, protective softshell jacket with a Gore-Tex® Infinium Windstopper construction. It offers maximum windproof protection and water resistance to help keep you protected in changeable conditions. It's the ideal softshell jacket for hiking, hill walking, scrambling or even climbing in unpredictable weather - perfect for the UK climate!
What is it made of?
The main construction of the jacket is built with Gore-Tex® Infinium Windstopper, with a secondary Matrix™ single weave stretch fabric, both coated with a fluorocarbon free DWR (Durable Water Repellent).
Gore-Tex® Infinium Windstopper is a specialised Windstopper fabric, renowned for its reliability, durability and overall comfort. It provides maximum protection when blowing a hooley outside and breathability to keep body temperature balanced, allowing sweat to move to the outer of the fabric instead of building up next to the skin.
Matrix™ single weave stretch nylon is a lightweight, durable fabric that provides a light stretch for additional freedom of movement. Matrix™ fabrics have been specifically chosen and used by Rab for their unique performance qualities. Alongside their lightweight, stretchy properties, they also offer a high (30+) UV/UPF protection level.
The fluorocarbon DWR (Durable Water Repellent) adds water resistant protection, encouraging light rain to bead off the garment. However, unfortunately, water repellent isn't the same as waterproof. So if the heavens really start to open, you might want to pack a shell jacket over the top, just in case.
Fluorocarbon free DWR's are much more sustainable than regular DWR treatments. Being fluorocarbon free ensures that there are no chemicals in the treatment that would harm the environment, so the manufacturing process of these jackets is much more environmentally friendly.
What are the features?
At the top of the jacket is a two-way adjustable hood. The hood has concealed internal front cord locks with a hook and loop volume adjustment system, allowing you to precisely adapt the fit, enhancing its comfort and protection. It has a wired, stiffened peak that sits above the forehead, helping to shield the face from rain, directing the water away.
There are three pockets in total, one on the chest and two hand pockets, giving plenty of storage options for small pieces of kit, accessories, and snacks you want to keep to hand. Each pocket is fastened with a secure YKK® zip that glides smoothly and is easy to get hold of with cold fingers!
Under the arms, you'll find fully venting pit zips which again are concealed with YKK® zips. Pit zips are fantastic when you need to dump some heat during intense activity - it's pretty easy to work up a sweat outdoors, even on the top of a cold mountain, so quick relief is much appreciated! They are easy to reach, so you don't have to worry about taking the whole jacket off if you want to undo them. When you're getting too warm, simply unzip each side and embrace that fresh breeze.
The cuffs have a hook and loop adjustment system, allowing you to enhance the fit around bare wrists, gloves or mitts.
At the bottom of the jacket, a subtle dual sided, rear hem adjustment with a single hand adjuster makes it quick and easy to cinch in the jacket around the waist and hips, keeping the weather out and reducing bulk if you're looking to layer a shell over the top.
How does it fit?
The Scimitar Windstopper is a regular fit jacket, meaning it sits a little looser on the frame, improving mobility and allowing layers to be added underneath when required.
