What is the Aspire 3L Jacket?

The updated Aspire 3L Jacket provides ample waterproof protection for wet hill and mountain adventures. It's Outdoor Research's best-selling rain jacket, for good reason, and now features recycled materials and PFAS-free DWR to improve its environmental impact.

What is it made of?

This jacket uses AscentShell Dry 3L, which is comprised of recycled nylon stretch fabric and delivers exceptional waterproof protection and breathability to help keep you comfortable all day.

Nylon is also incredibly durable and can endure a beating in rugged terrain, while the mechanical stretch enhances freedom of movement for technical manoeuvres, using equipment, and navigating steep inclines.

It's finished with a PFAS-free Nikwax Direct Dry DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages water to bead off the material instead of soaking in, minus the use of harmful PFAS chemicals (aka forever chemicals). This increases weather resistance whilst maintaining breathability, ensuring the fabric doesn't wet out and block moisture and heat buildup from sweat from escaping.

AscentShell™ Dry 3L is also bluesign® approved, meaning it's manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.

What are its features?

A fully adjustable hood with a bonded brim protects the head, face, and neck without hindering peripheral vision.

This jacket is fully seam taped, meaning no water can seep through the stitch lines for maximum reliability.

YKK® Aquaguard zippers are fully waterproof and ensure that zip fastenings will not leak when wet.

The main single-separating front zip is reinforced with an internal storm flap, which helps to protect from wet weather when the zip is not fully fastened. This allows you to achieve a little ventilation without sacrificing staying dry.

Zipped chest and hand pockets provide storage for small essentials such as a mobile phone, snacks, and energy gels. A key clip allows you to safely store car or house keys without the risk of them being dropped or lost on the trail.

This jacket also features a TorsoFlo™ ventilation system that delivers hem-to-bicep ventilation for maximum airflow, meaning you can dump heat quickly without letting any water in.

Hook and loop cuff closures enhance the cuffs' fit and help seal the weather out; they're incredibly quick and easy to use and allow you to make room for chunky gloves or a smartwatch underneath. Lastly, the elastic drawcord hem gives you the option to seal the weather out to maintain a more regular bodily microclimate when working hard on the hill.
