What is the Radial Backpack?
It's an everyday commuter backpack designed to suit busy, on-the-go lifestyles and people who get around on two wheels. It has an intelligent design to offer optimum organisation and commute-specific features to make the chore of cycling to work that little bit easier.
What is it made of?
The Radial is primarily made with 210D Nylon Dobby, with added 500D Nylon packcloth accents and on the base for reinforcement.
Nylon Dobby is woven nylon produced on the dobby loom. And no, we're not talking about the house elf. It's highly durable, often characterised by its little grid-shaped patterns, and can easily resist bumps and scrapes from regular use.
The nylon packcloth patches are much thicker, with over double the density, and provide extra strength where it's needed most. It's water repellent and, again, highly durable.
Both materials are treated with a PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent), which is much more sustainable than conventional treatments and adds extra weather protection by encouraging water to bead off the face.
Which backsystem does it use?
The backsystem is where the magic happens! Inspired by their brilliant AntiGravity™ technology, Osprey has created a seamless construction across the backpanel and hip-belt, using highly breathable suspended mesh to create the AirSpeed™ Ventilated back system. The system consists of four main components:
AIRSPEED™ SUSPENSION – LightWire™ alloy frame creates low profile air space, optimising pack balance and ventilation. Effectively transfers weight from shoulders to the hips.
AIRSPEED™ SUSPENSION BACKPANEL - 3D-tensioned breathable mesh backpanel ensures supportive fit and enhances airflow and ventilation.
SPACERMESH SHOULDER HARNESS - Sewn-in harness is constructed of mesh-covered, ventilated die-cut foam to enhance breathability and comfort.
SPACERMESH SEWN-IN HIPBELT – Featuring zippered stretch mesh pockets and Ergo Pull closures, the connection to the backpanel mesh eliminates seams, creating a smooth and comfortable lumbar to the hipbelt body wrap.
What are its features?
The entry to the main compartment uses reliable zip fastenings for easy access. Inside, there's a separation pocket for dirty shoes and clothing, alongside a padded 16" laptop sleeve to protect your laptop or tablet from impact. This bag offers plenty of internal organisation for smaller items, with a document sleeve and a scratch-free zip pocket for sunglasses or electronics.
The front panel has its own organisation pocket for items you might want to access in a hurry, alongside a stretch mesh pocket ideal for storing bike locks and rain jackets. Speaking of rain, this backpack also comes with an integrated, removable raincover for added weather protection in preparation for pesky sudden downpours.
The side panel stretch mesh pocket is accessible even when the pack is mounted, so you don't have to keep wasting time taking it off if you need something.
For pit stops, there's an innovative, integrated kickstand that keeps the pack upright and accessible, and cyclists will be pleased to know that there's a hidden Lidlock helmet carry to safely store your bike helmets when they're not on your head.
Reflective zipper pulls, and an LED light attachment point increase visibility for safety if you're on two wheels after hours.
Finally, you also have the option of expanding this backpack if you need more room. It comes as a 26 litre with built-in expansion panels that can be unzipped to increase the pack's capacity up to a whopping 34 litres.
