What is the Escapist 25?
The Escapist is a versatile backpack for mountain biking, bike-to-hike adventures, and even more casual errands closer to home. It's a fantastic addition to your kit list and provides a variety of storage and organisation options for different activities.
What is it made of?
The pack's main body comprises 210D recycled nylon bird dobby, which is lightweight yet durable enough to resist regular wear and abrasion from passing branches as you pedal on. 500D recycled high-tenacity nylon is used at the base for reinforcement - it'll easily take a beating in rugged terrain and survive endless pitstops where you need to dump your kit down and take a break.
Inside, the Escapist is lined with 200D recycled polyester, which is lighter and feels softer to the touch. It has a smoother finish, helping to protect any belongings inside and preventing more delicate items like sunglasses or mobile phones from being scratched.
All materials are treated with PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent), encouraging light rain and water to bead off instead of soaking in. Although please note that this doesn't make it waterproof!
Being PFAS-free ensures that the treatment doesn't contain harmful chemicals that get left behind in the environment. These fabrics are bluesign® approved and GRS-certified, ensuring strict environmental and consumer safety standards are met, including sustainability regulations, making them a little more friendly to the planet!
Which backsystem does it use?
The Escapist uses Osprey's Airscape™ Suspension to enhance support. It features mesh-covered ridged foam with a dropped lumbar to keep the pack closer to the body and centre the weight to the sit-bones.
The specialised AirScape™ backpanel features vented and ridged foam sections overlaid with a breathable, lightweight mesh for maximum comfort and breathability.
A Biostretch harness uses air-permeable spacermesh and die-cut foam to increase ventilation at the contact points and padding around the straps to relieve tension.
The hipbelt is padded and mesh-lined. It helps to keep the pack stable as you move and prevent it from bouncing around on your back if you're pedalling up a steep incline or hiking over uneven terrain.
What are its features?
The upper backpanel is split to allow for a more natural riding position when the pack is mounted, giving you complete mobility on your bike.
For storage, there are plenty of options to keep your gear organised, including the main compartment with panel zip entry, a large main pocket with J-zip access and a front panel organiser with tool pouches.
An internal stabiliser sleeve is more suitable for bulky items like seat pads or insulated jackets, and for overnight adventures, the Escapist 25 comes with a lower sleeping bag compartment and internal divider.
There are additional-access pockets and a stretch front shove-it pocket which is ideal for guidebooks. Hipbelt and fast-access pockets also fit trail snacks and energy gels perfectly, meaning you don't need to take the entire pack off for a quick energy boost!
A Lid-lock™ helmet attachment provides a safe place to store your helmet when it's not on your head. An integrated high-vis raincover offers two-in-one visibility for after-hours activities and complete waterproof protection when the heavens open. Additional reflective graphics and an LED light attachment are also ideal for biking on-road in the dark, whether commuting to work or hitting the trails before dawn.
Everything can be cinched using the upper and lower compression straps, stabilising the load inside and preventing things from wobbling around and setting you off balance when the pack isn't fully loaded.
