What is the Exos Pro 55?
It's a super lightweight, adaptable backpack designed primarily for thru-hiking, yet versatile enough to suit a variety of activities where you're counting every gram. Whether hiking, camping, backpacking or trekking for multiple days at a time, it'll keep you comfortable and supported all the way through your adventure.
What is it made of?
The main body and base comprise NanoFly™ 100D nylon and 200D UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethene). The combination of Nanofly™ material and UHMWPE is incredibly robust yet lightweight, ensuring the outer will survive in harsh, rugged terrain without the bulk of standard materials. 210D high-tenacity nylon accents reinforce areas where needed to increase reliability and longevity for years worth of abuse.
All materials are treated with a PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages light rain and water to bead off the surface instead of soaking in. Although please be aware this doesn't make the backpack fully waterproof!
Fabrics are also bluesign® approved, guaranteeing strict environmental and consumer safety standards are met, making them a little more friendly to both you and the planet!
Which backsystem does it use?
The backsystem is where the magic happens! Inspired by Osprey's very own AntiGravity™ technology, the Exos Pro 55 utilises elements of the AirSpeed™ backsystem to provide lightweight, comfortable support for longer adventures.
Ultralight AirSpeed™ suspension features a lightweight injection-moulded ladder to provide four inches of torso adjustability, allowing you to find the perfect fit. A LightWire™ frame also offers a balance of support and dynamic flex to help take the weight off your shoulders (quite literally) without feeling too rigid and uncomfortable.
A 3D-tensioned mesh backpanel ensures a supportive fit without compromising breathability, while the silicone print on the lumbar material enhances the grip of the hipbelt to prevent it from slipping down as you move.
The hipbelt itself uses EVA foam for padding and offers a slight stretch to create a secure yet dynamic fit for navigating uneven terrain.
An ExoForm harness features shoulder straps constructed with spacer mesh, die-cut EVA foam and a unique structured 3D mesh to bear the load effectively and enhance ventilation. A ventilated mesh yoke also evenly distributes the weight to help prevent aches and pains in your back during longer pursuits.
What are its features?
The floating top lid comes with four lash points and acts as a single compartment with a built-in key clip for keeping car or house keys safe on the trails. You can also remove the lid if you're looking to strip down weight or simply don't need the extra space - in this case, the main entry point is protected with the FlapJacket that folds over the top to ensure rain or snow doesn't get inside. If you're counting every gram, removing the lid will reduce the weight by around 80g, although it also reduces the backpack's capacity by approximately nine litres.
An internal hydration sleeve makes this backpack hydration compatible, meaning you don't have to lug around bulky water bottles. It has a centre back hose port and Osprey Hydraclip attachment to make hanging your water reservoir that little bit easier.
Upper and internal compression straps help to keep the load stable to prevent it from wobbling around and setting you off balance when the main compartment isn't full.
A large front fabric compression pocket with side stretch panels accommodates overloads. Multiple front panel lash points and deep, dual access, stretch mesh side pockets provide additional organisation options for wet or bulky gear. You can also tuck your sleeping mat into the lower side compression straps of the backpack to keep it secure and out of the way when on the go.
Last but not least, dual ice axe loops with a handle capture give you somewhere safe to store ice axes for mountaineering and climbing in colder environments.
