What is the Ether Light XT?
This mat is perfect for backpacking, travelling and mountaineering in cold conditions thanks to the super warm Exkin Platinum and Thermolite insulation, exceptionally comfortable Air Sprung Cell construction and the ability to deflate and inflate the the mat quickly. The Ether provides a luxurious 10cm of thick cushioning whilst still maintaining a tiny pack size.
This particular mat is the 'rectangular wide' model, meaning the same length but with some additional width for those of you who roll about in your sleep.
What is the Ether made of?
Insulation: Inside the mat, you'll find super warm Thermolite and Exkin Platinum insulation to provide enough warmth for winter seasons. Thermolite provides the bulk of the insulation while the Exkin material within reflects your body heat back to you for a warmer mat without a noticable weight penalty. If that wasn't enough, the Ether Light includes an anti-microbial treatment to avoid future issues when warm, moist air inevitably becomes trapped inside from inflation.
Outer Fabric: The mat is made using a combination of lightweight, quiet and grippy 40D and 30D Nylon fabrics. The combination of these two weights of fabric gives you a mat that will pack down to roughly the size of a 1.5L water bottle but also provides extra protection and reassurance when on uneven or abrasive terrain.
What are the features?
Providing further comfort is Sea to Summit's eXtra Thick (XT) Loop Baffle Air Sprung Cell technology. Larger air pockets are created by using many looped TPU baffles which connect the top and bottom fabric layers with their Air Sprung Cell dot weld pattern. The looped baffles allow the top and bottom layers to be positioned further apart creating larger pockets of air when inflated that require less fabric overall. This designis perfect for those of us who sleep on our sides.
Other features include a repair kit and a handy 'pillow lock' that secures your Sea to Summit Aeros pillow to the mat.
What is the R-value?
This mat has an R-Value of 3.2 which in real terms means that this mat makes a great 3-season adventure buddy and will keep you toasty for most of the year. R-Values are an international standard of insulation and (in simple terms) indicate the material's ability to resist heat flow through conduction, radiation or convection. Therefore the higher the R-Value, the lower the heat transfer and the greater the insulation properties of the material.
