What is the Copper Spur UL2 XL Tent?
It's a two-person tent with a longer design and more headroom to accommodate taller campers. The Copper Spur UL2 is optimised to provide an ultra-lightweight shelter solution without compromising durability and longevity, meaning you can use it season after season.
What is it made of?
Fly: The flysheet uses a recycled 15D nylon ripstop with an additional 20D solution-dyed ripstop and Big Agnes' proprietary HyperBead™ fabric technology. It features a PFAS-free, waterproof silicone and PU coating. This coating provides 1500mm HH waterproof protection, ensuring the tent will keep you dry and protected in wet conditions and downpours without hindering breathability.
The coating is PFAS-free to reduce environmental impact. PFAS means per- or poly-fluorinated alkyl; these are a group of industrial chemicals that cause detrimental harm to the environment. These chemicals can't break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFAS chemicals are suspected carcinogens and are known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
Floor: The tent's floor uses the same fabric as the flysheet for maximum performance and waterproof protection without excess weight.
Inner: The inner comprises breathable 15D nylon with 20D solution dyed ripstop and 15D polyester mesh with the same proprietary technology for added water resistance where it's needed most. The mesh panelling provides optimum breathability and helps to ventilate the tent further. You can also use it without the flysheet in summer to maximise airflow and provide more exposure to the night sky.
Poles: This tent comes with a combination of DAC Featherlite NFL, NSL and pressfit poles. Together, they made a strong, sturdy frame for optimum support and stability when assembled correctly.
The total weight of this tent is approximately 1.50kg. If you're counting the grams, you can strip down some of the features, such as the footprint and flysheet, to reduce the weight to 1.04kg. Another great tip for saving weight is to divide the pack between two people (one person carries the poles and pegs, and the other carries the textile components, for example) so that less room is taken up in one's backpack.
All seams are taped with waterproof, solvent-free PU tape to ensure seams don't leak.
What are the features?
Entry: The side-entry, dual-door design features a door and generous dry entry/exit vestibule on both sides of the tent, so you won't have to worry about scrambling over your partner in crime during the night if you need to get out.
Space: High-volume, freestanding architecture provides generous livable space and stability for various conditions, meaning there is no need to stake out every corner for a full pitch!
Thanks to the awning-style doors, the Copper Spur XL also achieves extended coverage. These doors can be supported with trekking poles (sold separately) or extra guylines.
Storage: The oversized 3D bin pocket provides huge, off-the-floor storage, whilst ceiling and side pockets provide further organisation options.
An EZ Pack Stuff Sack with a large, length-ways opening and compression closure makes this tent easy to pack and store.
Ventilation: Airflow is increased by the Low Vent capability on the vestibule doors and a high vent on the fly, combined with double sliders on the vestibule zippers which can also provide additional ventilation.
Guys, Attachments, Pegs: TipLok™ tent buckles provide secure pole-tip capture, rainfly attachments, tensioners and stake-out loops for stability. The injection molded cross pole socket also makes set up a breeze, so you don't have to spend hours faffing about. The quick-stash door keeper on the tent body makes stowing the unzipped door quick and easy, too.
Pre-cut guylines and reflective webbing shine in the light of a headlamp or torch, helping to prevent tripping in the night.
Optional Extras: Gear lofts, accessories, mtnGLO® Tent and Camp Lights can be attached using the interior loops, although these items must be purchased separately.
A Big Agnes footprint can also be purchased separately to reinforce the tent floor and help it last even longer; a footprint would also enable fast fly capability for lightweight trips.
