What are the Multi Trail Shorts?
The Multi Trail Shorts are lightweight shorts, versatile enough for everyday wear, whether running, hiking, taking the kids out during summer, or lounging at home on the weekend. They're made with responsible materials and are durable enough to survive years of wear.
What are they made of?
The main body of these shorts is crafted with OceanCycle Certified recycled polyester and a small amount of elastance plain weave for extra stretch.
OceanCycle is a social enterprise that uses a systematic approach to combat the ocean-bound plastic emergency. OceanCycle builds demand for ocean-bound plastics by making it easier for corporations to buy them. Due to the higher demand, recyclers are encouraged to process more waste material from at-risk coastal communities. People who live in these communities collect the material. These people have also been educated in managing waste and turning it into profit. This cycle, therefore, helps to prevent the build-up of waste materials that would otherwise litter our oceans.
The material is also impregnated with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR), which increases its water resistance and encourages light rain and snow to bead away.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay out in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFCs are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
Patagonia has lined these shorts using 100% recycled polyester with added miDori® bioSoft and HeiQ® Mint odour control.
miDori™ textile finishes are sourced from renewable, natural, raw materials and use plant-based chemistry to increase fabric performance while lowering carbon emissions.
HeiQ® Mint odour control technology is a plant-based technology that controls the development of malodours on textiles in a long-lasting fashion. This unique, natural deodoriser effectively addresses body odour on textiles using renewably sourced mint oil, eliminating the need for harmful chemicals. It also means that you can get away with washing these shorts even less, as they stay fresher for longer!
The body fabric is bluesign® approved, meaning it's manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are its features?
An external drawcord allows full adjustability around the waist, while the waistband itself is elasticated and features a low-bulk design.
The liner boxer briefs provide optimum comfort while amplifying the materials' moisture-wicking performance.
Two zipped front pockets and one rear pocket with a snap closure provide ample storage for small essentials, such as keys, trail snacks, and energy gels.
An 8-inch inseam provides sufficient coverage without being excessive. Lastly, these shorts feature a reflective logo for extra visibility after dark and a locker loop for easy drying when camping, sleeping in the van, or after the gym.
