What are the Terrebonne Shorts?
The Patagonia Terrebonne Shorts are lightweight, versatile outdoor shorts best suited to fast-paced activities like trail running and fastpacking, yet functional and comfy enough for regular hiking or training in the gym.
What are they made of?
The main fabric is 100% recycled polyester stretch ripstop, which is incredibly durable yet lightweight and flexible to accommodate dynamic activities.
The waistband is made of a recycled polyester and spandex blend, which effectively wicks away moisture while providing essential stretch where needed most.
Pocket bags are constructed using 100% recycled polyester mesh to reduce overall weight and enhance breathability.
The waistband and pocket bag fabrics are bluesign® approved, meaning they're manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
Furthermore, the body and waistband materials are treated with a PFC/PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent). PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical-free. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), commonly used to add water repellent to textiles, are also known as forever chemicals and cause environmental harm, similar to PFAS.
PFAS means per- or poly-fluorinated alkyl; these are a group of industrial chemicals that also cause detrimental harm to the environment, often through product and garment manufacture.
These chemicals can't break down, so once they reach nature (usually via factory water waste), they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFAS and PFCs are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker healthand safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
