What is the Anti Freeze Lite Hoodie?
It's an updated version of Montane's Anti Freeze Lite Hoodie. Now boasting 800+ FP ExpeDRY™ goose down, this lightweight down jacket is ideal for fast paced activities and alpine adventures in colder climates. Weighing just 280g it's ideal for those looking to keep weight and bulk down, for adventures when every gram counts.
What is it made from?
The Anti Freeze Lite uses a Pertex® Quantum recycled nylon ripstop outer with a PFC-free DWR, ExpeDRY 800+ FP goose down and a lightweight 20D PEAQ recycled nylon lining.
Insulation: Montane has used 70g of ExpeDRY™ 90/10 goose down for an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio. The Goose Down has a fill power of 850 + and is RDS and Track my Down™ certified, reassuring you that it has come from responsible, ethical sources.
It's well known that down and water don't mix well, so to combat this, the down is treated with a specialised process called ExpeDRY™. ExpeDRY™ by Allied Feather is an innovative, chemical-free, non-toxic alternative to hydrophobic-treated down. ExpeDRY™ uses chemical-free gases to permanently bond non-toxic gold particles to the individual down clusters, aiding the evaporation of water molecules, causing the down to dry faster and stay dry in high humidity and extreme conditions. This highly effective ability to move moisture helps the down retain maximum loft (fluffiness) and deal with various sources of moisture such as rain, snow and sweat, making it ideal for various environments and activities.
Montane has strategically placed Dynamic synthetic insulation panels on the underarm gusset for enhanced durability, warmth, and moisture management. Dynamic Insulation is lofty synthetic insulation made from recycled nylon that features a flexible four-way stretch for freedom of movement. Montane has used this synthetic insulation because it's effective at insulating even when wet, making it a robust choice for high-moisture areas around the chin and the underarms.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - In short, fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 800 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 800 cubic inches of space when fully lofted. Want a more to know more? Check out our guide to all things fill-power related by clicking here.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Track My Down - Track My Down is a portal that can be accessed through SourceTRACK™ to learn about the fill used in your individual jacket. It allows you to find the source region of the down, verified third-party tested final fill power, cleanliness, content analysis and links to reports and certificates. To access this information, you will find a SourceTRACK™ lot number printed on the garment's hang tag, which you can enter into the Track My Down website.
Outer: The Anti Freeze Lite's outer shell is made from 20 Denier Pertex® Quantum recycled nylon ripstop with a PFC/PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent).
Pertex® Quantum provides a lightweight, soft feel and helps improve the efficiency of the insulation by trapping still air. Though recycled, it doesn't skimp on performance; its tightly woven structure provides excellent levels of wind resistance and durability, providing both comfort and enhanced thermal performance. The fabric is coated in a PFC/PFAS-free DWR, which encourages light rain or snow to bead off the fabric without the use of harmful forever chemicals. However, please note this does not make the jacket waterproof.
Lining: The lining of this jacket is constructed from lightweight 20D PEAQ recycled nylon with a PFC/PFAS-Free DWR (durable water repellent), which helps protect the inside from getting wet. PEAQ Down lining uses bluesign® approved recycled nylon plain weave, which is durable and abrasion-resistant yet lightweight. The lining feels soft next to the skin and is highly breathable, improving comfort and helping to regulate temperature during intense activity.
What are its features?
Starting at the top, the Anti Freeze Lite features an insulated hood for warmth and protection from the elements. The hood features elasticated binding around the edge to provide a snug, secure fit around the head, optimising thermal efficiency and comfort when underneath a climbing helmet. The jacket is fastened with a simple central YKK Natulon recycled zip with an insulated placket to help prevent heat loss through the zip.
The jacket is constructed with a stitch-through baffle construction to reduce bulk, allowing it to be easily compressed to take up less space in your pack. An included cube stuff sack provides convenient storage in your pack when not in use, however, we don't recommend storing the jacket compressed for long periods of time. Allowing the jacket to loft between uses prolongs the life and effectiveness of the down's loft. The stuff sack also doubles as a source of extra fabric should the jacket need to be repaired after years of frequent use to extend its lifespan.
The jacket uses various premium construction techniques to enhance its performance and longevity. Montane's 'Reach fit' construction provides improved arm lift and forward reach, helping to stop the jacket from riding up when moving dynamically. Offset strategically placed seams throughout minimise vertical seams, optimise fabric usability, lower bulk, and reduce cold spots, with the bonus of creating a clean and timeless aesthetic. The jacket uses synthetically insulated panels around the chin and the underarms for better moisture management and durability in high-wear, high-moisture areas.
For storage, you'll find two hand warmer pockets with YKK Natulon recycled zippers that offer space for a mobile phone, trail snacks and energy gels to keep you fueled during your adventure. The pockets have been thoughtfully placed to still be accessible when wearing a backpack or climbing harness.
Finally, elasticated, self-sealing cuffs hem help lock in vital warmth and keep cold winds out of the jacket.
