What are the Fortes Lite Pants?
They're lightweight, synthetically insulated over trousers, ideal for a boost of warmth when the pace slows. Engineered to protect you in challenging mountain environments, they're ideal for winter belaying, pit stopping for lunch, or setting up camp at high altitudes.
What are they made from?
Fabrics: The trousers are created from Montane's 12-denier Barrier Tough + fabric. This densely woven, lightweight mini-ripstop material is made from recycled nylon yarns and is exceptionally abrasion-resistant for its weight, allowing it to withstand the rigours of mountain adventures whilst keeping the trousers' overall bulk to a minimum. The fabric is finished with an acrylic coating for increased weather protection and a PFC/PFAS FREE DWR (durable water repellent) coating to allow them to shed light rain and snow without the use of harmful forever chemicals. However, please note that this does not make the trousers waterproof.
For the lining, Montane have used a lighter-weight 10 denier recycled nylon ripstop fabric with Air Permeable Technology (APT). This light, yet robust material is tough enough to withstand frequent use, yet highly air permeable to provide maximum breathability and manage moisture effectively for all-day comfort in the mountains.
Insulation: The Fortes Lite Pants uses 60 g/m² of PrimaLoft® Gold Active Vent Insulation for breathable warmth, that's low-weight and highly packable. Primaloft® Gold Active is a synthetic insulation that provides ample warmth, even when wet. The ability to retain heat when wet is a huge advantage of synthetic insulation compared to down, alongside it being a vegan alternative. This insulation is also incredibly breathable and helps to regulate body temperature, balancing the body's microclimate when working hard. It's made from 80% recycled polyester, which, though recycled, maintains performance and feel. This insulation also does not migrate to reduce the chance of cold spots developing and boasts a four-way stretch to enhance flexibility and freedom of movement.
What are their features?
The Fortes Lite Pants feature a low-profile elasticated waistband for comfort over various trouser styles and when bending down or reaching. A simple press-button closure and fly provide convenient access when nature calls.
Thoughtfully designed offset seam intersections throughout the trousers improve durability across the seams, enhancing comfort levels and extending longevity. An 'Outside-In' construction cleverly uses the trousers' durable face fabric at strategic points to provide enhanced abrasion-resistance in high wear areas.
Full-length YKK Natulon recycled zippers sit on the outer sides, with a two-way opening designed for quick and easy on and off's over various chunky footwear. They also provide flexible ventilation options. If you start to feel a little warm, simply partially open the zips for more airflow around the legs.
For storage, you'll find a single zipped pocket on the thigh strategically placed to still be accessible while wearing a climbing harness. It offers space for keeping snacks or a GPS device close to hand but well out of the way.
The bottoms of the trousers feature elasticated hems with press stud closure, allowing you to adapt the fit around various footwear to help keep warm air in the trousers and cold air out.
Once you're done with the trousers, they can be easily packed into the included cube stuff sack to take up minimal space in your pack. This stuff sack also doubles as a source of extra fabric should the trousers need to be repaired at some point in the future, extending their lifespan.
