What is the Fortes Lite Hoodie?
It's a lightweight, synthetically insulated jacket that offers the ideal amount of warmth and breathability for a wide range of mountain conditions and activities. Made from lightweight ripstop materials, with body-mapped Primaloft Active Vent insulation and air permeable technology, it manages moisture effectively and traps vital warmth for adaptable protection on the mountain.
What is it made from?
Insulation: The Fortes Lite uses PrimaLoft® Gold Active Vent Insulation for breathable warmth, with a body-mapped construction for the perfect balance of warmth, weight and packability, making it suitable for a wide range of outdoor activities. Montane has used 60 g/m² throughout the torso and 40 g/m² in the hood and sleeves to offer maximum manoeuvrability and reduced bulk.
Primaloft® Gold Active is a synthetic insulation that provides ample warmth, even when wet. The ability to retain heat when wet is a huge advantage to synthetic insulation compared to down, alongside it being a vegan alternative. This insulation is also incredibly breathable and helps to regulate body temperature, balancing the body's microclimate when working hard. It's made from 80% recycled polyester, which, though recycled, maintains performance and feel. This insulation does not migrate and has a four-way stretch to enhance flexibility and freedom of movement - perfect for climbing, ski touring, or even using hiking poles.
Fabrics: Montane has used lightweight 12-denier Barrier Tough fabric for the outer fabric. This densely woven mini-ripstop material is made from recycled nylon yarns and is exceptionally abrasion-resistant for its weight, allowing it to withstand the rigours of mountain adventures whilst keeping the jacket's overall bulk to a minimum. This face fabric is finished with a PFC/PFAS FREE DWR (durable water repellent) coating to allow it to shed light rain and snow without the use of harmful forever chemicals. However, please note, this does not make the jacket waterproof.
For the lining, Montane have used a lighter-weight 10 denier recycled nylon ripstop fabric with Air Permeable Technology. This light, yet robust material is tough enough to withstand frequent use, yet highly air permeable to provide maximum breathability, manage moisture effectively for all-day comfort in the mountains.
All fabrics used in the Fortes Lite are Bluesign® approved, meaning they're manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
What are its features?
An adjustable hood with Montane's PIVOT 2 hood system provides shelter from the elements. It features an independent aperture and crown adjustment for a secure, tailored fit that moves with you without hindering your line of sight.
The jacket is fastened with a Lightweight YKK Vislon Natulon recycled zip for minimal weight and bulk, whilst an insulated placket helps prevent cold winds from entering the jacket through the zip.
As previously mentioned, the Fortes Lite Hoodie features body mapped insulation, providing more warmth in more exposed areas such as the main body and under the arms and hood to reduce bulk, maximise freedom of movement and comfort when layering. To further enhance movement, Montane have used their Reach fit construction which offers improved arm lift and forward reach, making the jacket ideal for climbing and scrambling.
Thoughtfully designed offset seams throughout the jacket improve durability across the seams, enhancing comfort levels and extending the jacket's longevity.
For storage, you'll find two zipped hand pockets for storing various snacks and trail essentials and a single internal chest pocket for protecting more valuable items. The hand pockets have been strategically placed to be accessible even when using a climbing harness and feature a cosy lining to keep your hands warm on cold days. Each pocket is fastened with a YKK Natulon recycled zip for a reduced footprint.
Soft, self-sealing fabric cuffs help lock in vital warmth around the wrists while allowing you to easily peek at your sports watch with minimal faff.
An included cube stuff sack allows you to easily compress and pack the jacket down to store in your pack when not in use. It also doubles as a source of extra fabric should the jacket need to be repaired after years of frequent use to extend its lifespan.
