What is the Trion 38?
This durable, functional backpack is perfect for climbing, ski touring and mountaineering. The Trion 38 offers 38 litres of storage and is made from durable materials to ensure it lasts for years of demanding adventures.
What is it made of?
This backpack's main body comprises recycled N.210 SD X-Grid 90% polyamide, 10% polyester). Sounds technical, right? That's because it is! However, in a nutshell, it's incredibly robust and abrasion-resistant, meaning it can withstand the rigours of demanding mountain adventures and challenging climbs with ease.
The base of the pack is reinforced with 210D recycled nylon dragon for additional longevity, helping to reduce wear in places it would most likely appear and urging your backpack to last for years, if not decades.
The material is impregnated with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR), adding to the material's water resistance and encouraging light rain and snow to bead away.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay out in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
The pack is also bluesign® approved, meaning it's manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
Mammut works with FairWear to ensure safe, ethical working conditions in their factories, helping to protect workers' rights and being considerate and responsible with their processes.
What back system does it use?
The back system features a 'Motion V Frame' back panel that provides structural support without adding excessive weight or bulk to the design. An anatomically shaped, soft, padded hip belt and shoulder straps hug the body comfortably without hindering freedom of movement. Mammut has also adapted the shoulder straps and back length specifically to fit the female frame, optimising fit, comfort and overall performance.
An elastic chest strap on the harness also helps keep the pack from bouncing around without feeling restrictive.
What are its features?
The roll-top closure rolls away instead of exposing the main entry point to the elements, providing complete weather protection for your belongings. It has a zip fastening for extra security, ensuring that nothing can slip out if left open at any point.
Two ice axe attachments keep your tools out of the way safely when not in use. There's also a built-in trekking pole carrier system and a reinforced side ski attachment for added convenience.
The Trion comes with an array of organisation options to keep your gear tidy, including an avalanche equipment compartment that is easily accessible during emergencies, a rope attachment on the flap of the pack and large mesh pockets on the shoulder straps, which work well for soft flasks and energy gels. There's also an additional flap with both external and internal pockets, and a key pocket, perfect for small or valuable items such as a mobile phone, trail snacks, cash, or car and house keys.
You can access the large main compartment through the primary, top point or zipped side entry, allowing you to grab your gear without taking the pack off.
Finally, when the bag isn't fully loaded, you can reduce the volume using compression straps at the side and front.
