What is the Classic Retro-X Jacket?
It's an updated version of the iconic Patagonia ½"-pile Retro-X fleece, which uses 100% Repreve® recycled polyester, certified by OceanCycle.
This soft, warm, windproof jacket features a more relaxed silhouette, fuzziness inside the collar, and a pocket shape that pays homage to designs of the early 2000s. It's a fresh take on an otherwise retro style, perfect for everyday outdoor and urban lifestyles.
What is it made of?
This jacket is made with 100% Repreve® recycled polyester ½"-pile fleece certified by OceanCycle and sourced from coastal communities at risk of plastic pollution. OceanCycle is a social enterprise that uses a systematic approach to combat the ocean-bound plastic emergency. OceanCycle builds demand for ocean-bound plastics by making it easier for corporations to buy them. Due to the higher demand, recyclers are encouraged to process more waste material from at-risk coastal communities. People who live in these communities collect the material. These people have also been educated in managing waste and turning it into profit. This cycle, therefore, helps to prevent the build-up of waste materials that would otherwise litter our oceans.
The lining of the jacket uses 100% recycled polyester taffeta with a PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent). PFAS means per- or poly-fluorinated alkyl; these are a group of industrial chemicals that cause detrimental harm to the environment. These chemicals aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFAS and PFCs are suspected carcinogens and are known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
Both the lining and trim fabrics are also bluesign® approved, meaning they're manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
The chest pocket is constructed using 100% NetPlus® 100% recycled nylon, which is smooth, lightweight, and incredibly durable. NetPlus® is Bureo's signature material. It's made from postconsumer recycled fishing nets, meaning it helps reduce one of the most harmful forms of ocean plastic pollution while empowering fishing communities worldwide. The material is fully traceable and created in partnership with fishermen and women to provide a more circular solution for end-of-life nets, reducing the amount of plastic entering the ocean and making the most of what is otherwise an incredibly precious resource and usable material.
The two alternative hand pockets are made with 100% recycled polyester brushed tricot, which is super soft, light, and breathable.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are the features?
This jacket features a fleece-lined stand-up collar with NetPlus® 100% postconsumer recycled nylon faille on the outer collar and trim; this robust material will more effectively resist general wear and tear, helping your jacket to last longer.
A full-length front zip and taffeta-hung liner inside the jacket provide ample ventilation and breathability and make this jacket easy to get on and off. The internal wind flap offers extra protection from the biting breeze, while the relaxed fit optimises comfort and allows you to wear additional layers underneath.
One zipped left chest pocket, constructed with NetPlus®, is ideal for stowing small essentials like a mobile phone, sunglasses, keys, or trail snacks. Two zipped, fleece-lined hand pockets double up as storage and hand warmers when you have forgotten your gloves.
A hip-length design provides ample coverage for any activity, whether dog walking, meeting friends for coffee, or commuting to work. Furthermore, this modernised take on a heritage classic provides ample versatility over the years, so you can wear this jacket repeatedly without looking dated.
